Adaptive lighting is a neat trick GE Lighting has been working on for a while, and now it’s expanding even further thanks to its partnership with SmartThings and adoption of Matter.
Cync App + Smart Products – Add comfort to any room
SmartThings announced a partnership with GE Lighting in a press release sent to Lifewire. The partnership will extend SmartThings’ capabilities to Cync’s newly unveiled under-cabinet kitchen lighting fixtures, which offer customizable colors, schedules and more. The new fixtures come in four sizes: 12-, 18- and 24-inch beams, as well as puck lights. Additional SmartThings-compatible Cync smart home products are also in the works, including devices like smart bulbs, plugs and light strips.
According to GE Lighting's website, the lights (which hit the market in June) are designed to reduce glare on countertops and are "slimmer than traditional fixtures." You can also connect up to 10 lights for a complete lighting solution, including the ability to change the color of the lights and set a schedule for when the lights turn on and off automatically.
The Cync app lets you control the lights even when you’re not home, but you can also use them with SmartThings, or they work with your chosen voice assistant, whether that’s Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You also don’t need a hub to use them, which for many people is a nice bonus.
