Many players who already have access to the game have expressed concerns about the impact of the draw system on the gaming experience, leading to frustration and disappointment when items are missed. In an interview with Dot Esports, Seong-Keon Jin, the lead developer of Solo Leveling: Arise at Netmarble, shed some light on Netmarble's reasoning behind incorporating the gacha-like system into its action game.
“We had to think about how we could provide users with the opportunity to acquire [various rewards] while playing and how we could generate revenue from this F2P game,” said Seong-Keon Jin, explaining how Solo Leveling: Arise players can obtain various weapons, Hunters, skills and Shadows through the draw system.
He recalled the team's consideration of which aspects of the game should be preserved for "players to enjoy" and which should be modified for business purposes. It was during this process that they introduced the current draw system.
