In a world full of competitive, tough, or violent games, every now and then a breath of fresh air comes in the form of lighthearted, story-driven adventures. Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story is one such title from developer Tequila Works and publisher Riot Forge that takes you to a magical land filled with a variety of unique characters and creatures, hoping to immerse you in an emotional story that tugs at your heartstrings. Does it succeed in what it set out to do? Here’s my Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story review, tested on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and PC.
Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story Review – Chilling Adventure, Heartwarming Story
But before we get into the review, I want to address the elephant (or Yeti?) in the room. Do you need to play League of Legends or be familiar with the series before playing Song of Nunu? While Nunu and Willump (the boy and his Yeti) are LoL champions and you’ll enjoy the spin-off more if you’re familiar with them, you don’t have to.
I haven’t played League in a while, but that didn’t affect my experience with this game. Song of Nunu weaves the story in such a way that even those who haven’t played League yet can still feel the connection to Nunu and Willump. I’d say it even made me interested in picking up League of Legends again.
Song of Nunu is a story about two best friends, Nunu and Willump, who go on an adventure in Freljord. Nunu is a young Notai boy who is searching for his mother Layka in this region full of harsh environments and fearsome wolves. But he is not alone – Willump is there to protect and support him. The way the story unfolds keeps you captivated as you discover more and more secrets about the world they live in and about themselves.
