PlayStation Showcase 2021: Thursday, September 9
With Sony skipping E3 this year, it’s understandable that it would want to find another way to steal the spotlight. And what better way than to hold its own showcase event? But a word of warning for VR fans: Sony won’t be showing off anything for the next generation of PlayStation VR. Whether that means “no VR at all” or just “no next-gen VR” remains to be seen.
According to the official announcement, the Showcase will focus primarily (perhaps exclusively?) on the PlayStation 5. Sony also promises "updates from PlayStation Studios and some of the most imaginative developers in the industry, for games coming this holiday and beyond." You can also stick around after the main event to learn more about some of the studios featured.
What will actually make it into the Showcase is still uncertain. Sony hasn’t specified anything or given away any title names, but we can probably guess a few. With pre-orders for Horizon Forbidden West recently opening, that seems like a given. Hopefully we’ll also see some more information on the intriguing Ghostwire: Tokyo, which is due out sometime later this year.
