PS5 DualSense Controller Review
Sony’s DualShock controller has evolved steadily since its introduction on the original PlayStation, slowly adding new features over the generations including wireless connectivity, motion controls and a touchpad. Yet the essence of the original design has remained intact, even up until recently with the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller, with its familiar dual-analog approach and relatively compact form factor, at least compared to rival Xbox controllers.
For the PlayStation 5, Sony decided to try something new with the DualSense Wireless Controller. Given its parallel analog sticks and familiar face buttons, it still retains the shape of previous generations. However, it represents the most significant generational upgrade yet, thanks to features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that provide physical resistance during gameplay. While more expensive than previous DualShock models, it’s an excellent controller that offers immersive possibilities for PlayStation 5 owners.
The DualSense implements some notable aesthetic changes similar to those of the PlayStation 5 console itself, but ultimately the core underpinnings of the DualShock 4 controller remain intact. Like the previous-generation gamepad, it features familiar aligned analog sticks, similarly positioned face buttons, shoulder/trigger buttons, a directional pad, and a touch-sensitive surface above the sticks.
