Sports fans love their teams and love to share their enthusiasm with other fans. That is exactly what Sony wants to make possible with this new app.
Virtual Fan Engagement: Proof of Concept with Manchester City | CES 2023 | Sony Official
Sony announced the new FavoriteSpace app in a press release on its website on Friday. The app is designed to provide virtual reality spaces where fans can come together to interact, and where teams and players can join in to connect with fans. For now, the interaction is limited to Manchester City Football Club; however, Sony assured in the press release that it will "expand the experience by providing more areas and content for different teams and other sports."
As a proof of concept, Sony worked with Manchester City to develop the app and gain feedback from fans. The result is the Man City Virtual Etihad Stadium, a recreation of its real-world counterpart that fans can visit with their avatars. Inside the stadium, visitors can experience content such as Immersive Highlights from past home games.
Fans can also come together and interact with other vans (using their avatars), participate in events on days when real-world games are scheduled, and customize their avatars and fan banners. Teams and players can also interact with the fan community in these spaces.
