For many, the Sony Walkman brand evokes nostalgia for a time when cassette tapes and FM radio were the primary means of finding and listening to music. Today, the Sony NWE395 Walkman attempts to carry on that legacy, but in a world of mobile apps and wireless connectivity. It’s a very simple MP3 player, with an interface that’s easy to use for playing music, but it does require you to try and remember how you interacted with media a decade and a half ago.

We tested the Walkman for a week, using it as a replacement for our iPhone X's regular audio duties. Read on to see how we performed.

The Walkman has a simple design reminiscent of the iPod, but with more physical controls. It measures a petite 3.12 x 1.81 x 6.68 inches (LxWxH) and weighs less than an ounce. It fits neatly in a bag or the coin pocket of most men's jeans.
