VALORANT’s patch 9.02 finally overhauls the tactical shooter’s agent selection screen on PC to match the recently released console version. The update isn’t exactly a success aesthetically, but it does a good job of banishing instalockers with excellent muscle memory from their game.

Valorant Patch 9.02 – Agent Select & Combat Report Update

The patch, which went live on July 30, changes the position of the character roster with the team agent picks column, while the agent select screen gets a more stylish look and feel. The update also increases the visibility of map and mode names, and moves the enemy agent lock bar to the bottom of the screen. If you're unsure of the differences, feel free to check out the side-by-side comparison below.

Unfortunately, while the update was intended to make things better, players aren’t convinced that the new VALORANT agent select screen is anything to write home about. Some find the new design “too cluttered” and “dark”, while many can’t figure out the scroll bar on the agent roster.

There are now 24 agents in VALORANT, which fits neatly into the new six-by-four roster block. While you don’t have to scroll down to see every playable character now, you will eventually have to as Riot adds new members to the roster. “I hate scrolling down it looks like shit, [I] have to click more before I can lock on,” one disappointed player said on Reddit. “I think it’s a downgrade, the console select screen looks like shit and this is the same shit. Why does an agent model preview take up 60 percent of the screen?” another player added.
