A new device called the SoundBeamer sends sound directly to your ears, without the need for headphones.
Headphone cushions are of great importance
Israeli company Noveto says it plans to release its first consumer device, the SoundBeamer 1.0, late next year. The desktop gadget uses ultrasound waves to focus sound just outside your ears, so while it looks like a tiny speaker, users won’t hear anything coming out of it. On its website, the company explains how the SoundBeamer uses a built-in 3D sensor module to track the position of your ears in real time, then directs the ultrasound waves to “concentrate in tiny sound pockets” near your ears.
“The biggest advantage is that you don’t have to tell the device where you are, because it’s not streaming to a specific place, it’s following you wherever you go,” said Joseph Ferdinando, founder of HotHeadTech, in an email interview. “This is what most people dream of: a world where people can get music wherever they want.”
Because the SoundBeamer does not require headphones, users can also hear other sounds in the room.
