Reports are coming in that Ubisoft’s latest free-to-play online multiplayer shooter XDefiant has skyrocketed to nearly 8 million unique players in its first week of launch. Not bad for a launch that has been plagued by issues.
All 5 classes in XDefiant explained (with tips)
According to Insider Gaming, XDefiant recently surpassed 8 million unique players in its first week since launching on May 21, 2024. A “unique player” here is defined as someone who has fully downloaded the game and opened it for the first time since downloading it.
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve actually played the game, let alone that they’re consistently playing it to this day. But considering Ubisoft’s internal goal was to reach 5 million unique players within the first month of launch, 8 million in the first week is all the more impressive.
The news follows previous reports that XDefiant even managed to reach a staggering 1 million unique players just 2.5 hours after its initial launch on May 21, 2024. The milestone makes the game the fastest Ubisoft title to ever reach such a figure. Of course, that number increased to an even more impressive 3 million unique players 48 hours after the game's launch.
