The latest addition to the South Park video game family, South Park Snow Day, doesn’t aim to reinvent the concept of a cooperative action-adventure game. Focusing on implementing tried-and-true mechanics without risky experiments, the game managed to keep me entertained for hours with its trademark South Park humor, challenging combat, and a decent storyline.
South Park: Snow Day! Review
The story continues from the foundation of the game’s turn-based RPG predecessors and RTS mobile spin-off, with Eric Cartman still bearing the mantle of the Grand Wizard. South Park has been hit by a devastating blizzard, causing chaos and destruction and leaving its residents in complete disarray.
In such circumstances, the city has decided to suspend the school until the situation blows over (literally), much to the delight of the protagonists. As in the previous games, you take on the role of the New Kid who joins the gang of Eric, Kyle, Stan and Kenny, along with other familiar supporting characters. Together you go on a fantasy adventure inspired by classic D&D board games and iconic RPGs such as Elder Scrolls and WoW.
Without giving any spoilers, the straightforward story plays out like an extended episode of South Park. As such, it merely serves as a springboard to launch you into all sorts of wacky situations. Throughout the story, you’ll encounter a fair share of jokes, quips, and pop culture references, all executed in typical South Park style.
