Splatoon 2 review
Splatoon 2 is the sequel to the original Splatoon for Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch. With a focus on multiplayer, this brightly colored third-person shooter is kid-friendly and features a variety of game modes to play online, from Turf Wars to Capture the Flag. We took a closer look at Splatoon 2, focusing primarily on its gameplay, but also paying attention to its plot, graphics, and kid-friendliness.
Once you insert the game cartridge or download Splatoon 2, the game will launch and you will be prompted to create an Inkling. Creating a character is simple, with limited options. Once you are done, you will be placed in a basic tutorial and taught the controls of the game. Only after you have completed the tutorial will you be able to enter the capital and access the standard gameplay.
Splatoon 2 starts by dropping your newly created Inkling into an area that has the aesthetic of an urban Japanese city. A screen lights up and two female Inklings tell you what’s new, what maps are currently being played in what game modes, and anything else you need to know. This video is hosted by pop idol duo Off the Hook and plays every time you restart the game. You can press the A button to watch the video faster, but you can’t skip it. After the first few times, you’ll get annoyed with having to watch it over and over again.
