Spotify will soon offer audiobooks to listeners. The company has announced a partnership with Swedish audiobook company Storytel. Together, they plan to offer audiobooks on the platform later this year.
Are audiobooks a good addition to Spotify? 📚 – Storytel Partnership
Spotify announced the partnership on Thursday, noting that Storytel will use the recently announced Spotify Open Access Platform to bring its content to the service. According to TechCrunch, users who already subscribe to Storytel will be able to access their content on Spotify by linking the two accounts.
“By partnering with Spotify, we’re making it even easier for our customers to enjoy great audiobook experiences and exciting authorships. At the same time, we’re taking the opportunity to reach new audiences who already use Spotify but haven’t yet discovered the magic of audiobooks,” said Jonas Tellander, founder and CEO of Storytel, in the announcement.
Storytel may sound like a new name in the audiobook market, but it has been around for a number of years and has managed to amass over 1.5 million subscribers in over 25 market regions. The service currently offers 500,000 audiobooks for users to listen to.
