Spotify has made it clear that it will support AirPlay 2 on its iOS app, despite an earlier statement to the contrary.

The clarification was made on Spotify's Community forum in an update to a more than 2-year-old post where people were requesting AirPlay 2 support. Originally, a comment was made by a Spotify representative on the forums stating that AirPlay 2 would not be supported due to "audio driver compatibility issues." The comment has since been removed.
AirPlay 2, released in May 2018 as part of the iOS 11.4 update, allows users to stream music to multiple devices at once. Users can stream music from one room and play it on other devices, such as a HomePod, in different rooms without any audio delay.
Apple has a post on its Developer blog detailing how developers can enable AirPlay 2 in their apps in four steps. But the issue with Spotify omitting the streaming protocol may go deeper than technical issues and instead point to business problems.
