Spotify makes it easier for a group of friends to put together a party playlist in real time.
Introducing Jam on Spotify
Starting today, the company is rolling out a feature called Jam, which lets Premium users invite their friends and family to collaborate on a shared listening queue that they can then access whether they’re in the same room or not. Only Premium subscribers can start a Jam session, but all users, including those who don’t pay for Spotify, can participate in the experience.
To start a Jam, tap the speaker icon at the bottom of Spotify’s interface and select “Start a Jam.” That option is also available from the three-dot menu next to songs and playlists. The app will automatically prompt other Spotify users on the same Wi-Fi network to join your Jam. Guests can join a Jam by scanning the QR code on the host’s phone, or Premium users can send an invite link via the share sheet.
“Just invite your team and Jam will help you find the perfect songs to add to the queue, looking at overlaps in your listening preferences and making music recommendations that everyone will love,” Spotify wrote in the blog post announcing Jam.
