As a fan of the prequel and original Star Wars films, Fallen Order was an absolute treat for me. Ever since the sequel was announced, I was pretty excited and more concerned to know how Star Wars Jedi Survivor would end. This game is set five years later in the year 9 BBY and roughly takes place during the Obi-Wan TV show. Without getting too deep into the canonical timelines, I was more intrigued by the OG Mantis crew and whether Respawn could deliver a perfect sequel. Is this “Soulslike” sequel worth playing and spending hours on? Check out our spoiler-free Star Wars Jedi Survivor review to know the final verdict.

STAR WARS JEDI: SURVIVOR Review (PS5) – Is The Force strong in this game? – Electric Playground

To be honest, Star Wars Jedi Survivor feels like a Disney exclusive with epic storytelling, lore, cameos, and impactful character development. Instead of a distraught Jedi relearning the ways of the Force, Jedi Survivor picks up right where we left Cal. No longer a young Padawan hiding from the Imperials, he’s spent the last five years coming of age. Nope! I’m not talking about Cal’s beard, but him as a Jedi Knight taking on the Empire. Cal is now forced to make independent choices without mentors or guidance.

What I loved about this sequel is that Respawn managed to create a majestic and expansive world setting. Balancing between the large landscapes and the wildlife, this was a perfect Soulslike experience for me as a Star Wars fan. While playing, I couldn’t help but appreciate the evolved combat system and the new gameplay mechanics. While exploring the planets and abandoned High Republic chambers, there were times when I lost track of time as I discovered the new gameplay elements.

One of these additions is the new Ascension Cable, designed as a grappling hook to reach new places. Speaking of the traversal system, the game also introduced several mounts for Cal to tame and befriend. Unlike the strong canon appearances, I felt Jedi Survivor had more meaningful cameos with a huge potential to connect the dots.
