Valve has just released a major update to its game distribution platform Steam, which completely changes the search function.
16 Hidden Steam Features and Settings You'll Love!
Steam’s Quick Search tab now pulls in tags, developers, publishers, franchises, and more. Before this update, this was largely done manually. For example, you’d have to open the developer’s home page and click on each game, one by one, to find something you liked. Now, you can just type in publishers like Square Enix and get a full list, and the same goes for smaller developers.
This feature has been expanded to the auto-suggest dropdown, and you can now search for entire categories, with Valve listing “free to play” for example. Additionally, the search function is now more forgiving of misspellings, which is especially useful when searching for a JRPG with an excessively long and complicated name.
Valve says the changes will affect the storefront, desktop client, and mobile clients. In other words, all the ways you buy games on Steam. It couldn’t have come at a better time, with the wallet-busting annual Summer Steam Sale kicking off next month. Valve says the update is already fully integrated, so get on the lookout.
