GIMP's Select By Color Tool can be a great way to quickly and easily select areas of an image that have a similar color. In this example, I'll show you how to select a portion of an image to change its color slightly.

The end result isn't perfect, but this will teach you how to use the Select by Color tool so you can experiment with your own results.
Open your image in GIMP. The Select By Color tool works best on images with a lot of one color and a fair amount of contrast.
Now choose the Select By Color Tool from the Toolbox. For the purposes of this exercise, the Tool Options can all be left at their default settings to begin with, which should match those in the image.
