Whether you’re visiting a new city or staying at home, sometimes you just want to go for a walk but don’t know where to go. A new, free iPhone app called Strolly is the perfect solution. Open the app and it creates three walking routes, usually looping, near your current location: a short one, a long one, and an in-between. You can switch between the routes and pick the one you like.
⛰ With this app you can easily find trails for walking, cycling, running or hiking! #app
That’s it: there are no turn-by-turn instructions and you only get three suggestions per day. The app is focused on including local points of interest and not taking the same route twice. The loops are created entirely on the device, meaning no data about your current location is sent to a server somewhere.
There are also no ads, apart from a small button in the settings that lets you tip the developers if you want. Advanced paid features may come later, according to their announcement, but for now it’s one of those simple apps built for a specific person by just a few people (Natalia Panferova and Matthaus Woolard).
Once you do that, you’ll see a few different options. I tried the app in a few different locations and it usually gave me a walk of about 15 minutes, a walk of about 30 minutes, and another walk of about an hour, with some variation. If you know you’re not likely to want to do super long walks, you can adjust your settings so that you get a mix of long, medium, and short walks.
