When learning new material, it can be overwhelming to think about how much time it will take to truly understand it all. This study technique can help you stay focused and absorb more information in shorter study sessions.
Marty Lobdell – Study Less, Study Smart
The lecture “Study Less, Study Smart”—featured in the video above—is by Pierce College psychology professor Dr. Marty Lobdell. In it, Lobdell shares his best tips for studying so you never have to attempt those dreaded cramming sessions again. The video itself is pretty old and some of you have probably seen it before, but it’s something every student should watch. The lecture is about an hour long—and is definitely worth watching in its entirety—but here are some of the best tips:
Study in fragmented sessions: Your ability to retain information declines after about 25-30 minutes, so break it up into multiple, smaller sessions. Reward yourself with fun activities during your breaks
Have a designated study space: Don’t study where you’re doing something else. Don’t study in your bed, where you’re playing games (even if it’s your computer), or in front of the TV.
