The best thing about Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that there's finally an animated man who doesn't save an animated woman. The next best thing is that Super Mario World fans (i.e. everyone) finally get a sequel.
All 2D platformers take the Mario or Wario pill
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a 2D side-scrolling platformer, and while there have been several 2D Mario platformers released on handheld consoles over the years, most mainstream console games have either been 3D or other types of games featuring everyone’s favorite dungaree Brooklyn plumber. Wonder, coming out next month, promises to be a worthy sequel to one of the greatest video games of all time, packed with all the goodness that modern gaming and years of game-making experience can bring.
“I grew up with Super Mario World and consider it a masterpiece and one of the best games ever,” Lucas Wyland, founder of the gaming website Steambase, told Lifewire via email.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder comes out in late October and it already looks amazing. It’s the familiar gameplay of all those classic pre-3D Mario games, but with the hardware power of modern consoles and the game design know-how honed from nearly 30 years of making great Mario games.
