Wizards of the Coast made a surprise Magic: The Gathering Banned and Restricted announcement for the Pauper format on May 13, banning the Enchantment Aura All That Glitters.
Can these cards be released in Modern again?
The last MTG Banned and Restricted announcement came in March, while the December ban included five cards, with Karn, the Great Creator, and Geoligical Appraiser being removed from the Pauper format. In the lead-up to the release of Modern Horizons 3 (MH3), WotC used the May 13th B&R window to remove All That Glitters from the Pauper format.
Pauper got two bans in December, and Smuggler's Copter was unbanned. At the time, All That Glitters was also in the hot seat, giving cards like Gingerbrute and Ornithopter power they shouldn't have.
"All That Glitters is a card that makes you never want to tap," said principal game designer Gavin Verhey. "If you don't have answers early on, you can die incredibly easily, but you still have to worry about it later in the game. The play pattern is just not very fun: it accelerates Pauper, which is something we're trying to combat, and creates polarizing games."
