Extraction shooter Gray Zone Warfare is the latest surprise hit of 2024. After launching on Tuesday, April 30 with a day’s notice, the game has exploded onto Steam Early Access.
Will Grey Zone Warfare replace Tarkov?
Publisher and developer MADFINGER Games announced today that GZW has sold over 500,000 copies in just three days. That’s a huge sale by any standard, but it’s even more impressive because it’s a surprise release from a team that previously only made mobile games.
After an expectedly rough launch day with server issues, graphical issues and problems with purchasing the game, GZW has now stabilized somewhat. At the time of writing, almost 50,000 players are logged in and exploring Lamang Island, the fictional location and setting for the game.
GZW is similar to Escape From Tarkov, which has seen its fair share of controversy in recent weeks following the announcement of the “pay-to-win” $250 Unheard Edition. GZW may have come at just the right time, but the early access title’s launch is just the beginning.
