Team Falcons took home the ESL One Birmingham trophy from upper-bracket team BetBoom in dominant fashion. Despite playing four bracket-stage matches compared to BetBoom’s one, the Falcons crushed their opponents with a 3-0 sweep—a victory that coach Aui_2000 has since suggested was due to widespread underperformance.
FALCONS vs BETBOOM – GRAND FINAL – ESL ONE BIRMINGHAM 2024 DOTA 2
Falcons were the newest organization to join ESL One Birmingham. The squad only burst onto the Dota 2 scene in November of last year, but did so with a bang, signing several experienced players at the peak of their powers, alongside 19-year-old Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak. Brimming with potential, but with fewer opportunities to prove their worth, the Falcons have now sent a clear message to their opponents: they’re here to stay.
Falcons coach Aui_2000 explained to Dot Esports that the Dota 2 team enjoyed a "super easy integration" into their new organization, especially given their previous relationships. However, he did admit that maintaining a stable mentality during matches was difficult, especially in terms of ensuring that players didn't get irritated by taunts, trash talk, and losing. "It's something we're struggling with a little bit right now," he explained after the team's ESL victory. "We ended up winning the tournament, but I think our form and our mentality aren't the best. We performed well when it mattered, but a lot of other teams can perform at a better level."
Game two provided a particularly impressive window into how the Falcons can use scalability to their advantage, overcoming BetBoom’s early lead to secure their second definitive victory. By using Sven in their draft, Skiter finally tipped the scales in his team’s favor. With such brutal damage-dealing prowess, the team gained a significant upper hand in fights, allowing the rest of the team to quickly level up for the late game.
