Team Fortress 2 has been review-bombed by the game's community on Steam, and now has over 100,000 negative reviews on the platform. This makes the nearly two-decade-old shooter the first Valve title to receive an "overwhelmingly negative" rating on its own platform.
Overwatch 2 is coming to Steam, and it's awesome
The game is one of the most played on Steam, even 17 years after its release. But for some time now, it has been plagued by a 'bot problem' that has made it unplayable according to some players. Cheating aimbots have become more and more common on the TF2 game servers, with no way to stop them, ruining the experience for most real players. The fact that the problem has become so severe has forced the TF2 community to take action.
Over the past four days, Steam has received over 25,000 negative reviews, the majority of which are from users with hundreds of hours in the game criticizing Valve and urging them to fix the game's bot problem. According to one recent reviewer with over 600 hours in TF2, the game is "flooded with people willing to doxx, DDOS, and SWAT anyone who takes action against the problem."
An online campaign with the hashtags #FixTF2 and #SaveTF2 was started by the community and a website was created to raise awareness about the game’s issues. The website notes that the bot issue has been widespread for the past five years and that Valve has done nothing to fix it, despite being aware of the issue two years ago. However, instead of fixing the issue, they have moved on to other ventures. The website has also created a petition to fix the game, which has now garnered over 200,000 signatures since the campaign began.
