Teamfight Tactics game design director Stephen “Mortdog” Mortimer answered fan questions in a Twitch stream on June 14, teasing a permanent item transfer mechanic similar to Golden Remover.
Mortdog accidentally leaks his TFT hacks
Moving items around isn’t a new concept in TFT. The team has been experimenting with the idea for a while, from benching a champion to remove an item (the Shimmerscale trait) to Augments that grant a Golden Remover. A permanent Golden Remover is even available via the Pengu’s Party game mode, which features two traits from each previous set in TFT combined with gameplay from Set 11 Inkborn Fables. During Mortdog’s Q&A stream on June 14, the developer answered questions about freely moving items around, saying that the TFT team was “looking into this pretty thoroughly.”
According to Mortdog, moving items and components around at will has its pros and cons. The biggest downside, according to the game developer, is that "when optimized, it can get pretty out of hand." Benefits of a permanent mechanic like Golden Remover include helping to alleviate bad RNG and increasing the skill gap for competitive players.
Now that I've played Pengu's Party, I can see both the pros and cons of a permanent Golden Remover as a mechanic. The ability to move items around at will could get wild. But I also think it would help new and casual players, allowing them to experiment with flexible gameplay and comp transitions without having to worry about whether a specific item will work on another board.
