Framework, maker of modular, ultra-repairable laptops, is now making a Chromebook. It costs $999 and may be the best Chromebook you can buy.
Framework Chromebook Review
Chromebooks are cheap, basic, almost disposable computers that offload much of your work to the cloud. The Framework Laptop Chromebook Edition, or Framebook as we’ll call it, is the opposite of disposable junk. It may seem crazy to spend that much when you can get a Chromebook with similar performance for much less, but in the end you’ll likely save a lot of money and be a lot more fun to use.
"Chromebooks require much less processing power and memory, rarely needing more than 4GB of RAM, ideal for people who only need to do basic tasks like word processing, web browsing and email. By comparison, a laptop running a more demanding operating system would likely require twice as much power," technology expert Daivat Dholakia told Lifewire via email.
The big difference between a Chromebook and a MacBook or Windows laptop is where your apps run. Windows and macOS are both heavy, complex operating systems that can do just about anything, without an internet connection. The Mac comes exceptionally well-equipped out of the box, with apps for editing photos, shooting video, and even recording and playing music (with GarageBand).
