Cleaning grout is a chore that few people enjoy, but if you have tile in your home, you know it needs to be done. Depending on the tools and cleaning supplies you have on hand, there are a few effective methods to try. Here are three of the best ways to clean grout, plus what you’ll need to do it.

DIRTY JOINTS WHITENED in 15 seconds

Scrub it with bleach: One of the easiest ways to clean grout is to scrub it down with bleach and a plain old sponge. This is especially helpful if you’re dealing with mold, but it’s good for disinfecting anyway. Mix one part bleach to 10 parts water, put it in a spray bottle, and soak the area. After it’s sat for about five minutes, you can scrub it with a sponge or an old toothbrush. You’ll want something sturdy and abrasive, so anything rougher than a cloth will do. If the smell of bleach makes your stomach turn, try a lightly scented cleaner like this one:

Use a Melamine Sponge: If you’re dealing with plain old foam or grime and don’t think you need the sanitizing power of bleach, a Magic Eraser (or melamine sponge) will get it nice and white without compromising the integrity of the material. Simply dampen it slightly and scrub over the grout for an almost instant refresh. If you want some real scrubbing power, I recommend my favorite, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Ultra Foamy.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda: Another good method is a simple DIY method: mix two parts baking soda with one part hydrogen peroxide to form a paste, spread it on the grout, let it sit for five minutes, then go at it with your sponge or old toothbrush.
