Players of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet VGC will have a tough time defeating a mysterious team featuring two Pokémon rarely seen in competitive play: Dewgong and Gloom.

With Scarlet and Violet’s first limited format, Regulation G, kicking off on May 1st, many VGC players are busy practicing on the highly popular battle simulator, Pokémon Showdown. As with any new format, the meta changes and players will have to figure out what works. One of the main focuses of Regulation G is the introduction of limited-time Legendary Pokémon such as Calyrex Shadow Rider, Terapagos, Miraidon, and Zamazenta.
However, there is a very unusual team floating around at the moment, and the limited Legendary is the least of everyone’s worries. Instead, it’s Dewgong and Gloom who surprise everyone, beating top players like 2023 Europe International champion Paul Chua.
Chua claimed that he was "cooked" by the bizarre team of Dewgong, Gloom, Ting-Lu, Armarouge, female Indeedee and Lunala. This can often be the case with gimmicky teams and closed teamsheets, because you just don't know what to expect. I've never seen Dewgong or Gloom in VGC, let alone Reg G, so I would have no idea what these two are capable of if I suddenly saw them on the ladder.
