League of Legends players who enjoy ability power champions will hopefully get more item choices next week, with major buffs to Cosmic Drive, Hextech Rocketbelt, and Stormsurge confirmed for the July update.

Lead League developer Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison hinted at a magic item system update in yesterday’s Patch 14.15 preview, detailing AD carry nerfs, but the items that would be adjusted were “undecided” at the time. A day later in today’s detailed preview, however, those items were revealed, as well as a bit more about why they need a slight boost; partly due to the power of other key choices.

Stormsurge now grants an additional 10 percent passive bonus movement speed and five percent ranged damage, while Cosmic Drive grants extra base health and more of a move speed bonus after dealing AP damage. Hextech Rocketbelt came out on the losing end, only gaining the extra 100 base health. Void Staff also grants five extra ability power.

"We'd like to balance around tuning Fated Ashes and Liandry's/Blackfire Torch right now, so that we're not champions that specialize in Riot," Phroxzon said. Most of these buffs revert some of the changes Riot made to the items. As a result, players have tended to default to Liandry's Torment on AP champions that used to take the Rocketbelt or Cosmic Drive.
