Google has announced the first developer preview of Android 11, the earliest preview release of any Android version to date. Since the release timeline isn’t all that far removed from the rollout of Android 10, there aren’t many front-facing feature updates for Android 11. We don’t recommend installing Android 11 right now, but here are some of the best features found in Android 11 so far.

It was widely believed that Google would bring Facebook-style chat heads to all messaging apps with Android 10. Bubbles, as they’re called, are now available in the first developer preview of Android 11, with a UI that lets you keep multiple conversations accessible via a bubble. This bubble is available on every screen, so you can access it from any app, and should benefit messaging apps like WhatsApp, Hangouts, Facebook Messenger, and more.

While we expected this to be bundled with Android 10, a native screen recorder in Android is also an expected feature in Android 11. We just hope that Google sticks to its original plan and keeps the feature intact until the stable release. With a native screen recorder present, we no longer have to worry about using a third-party for fear of compromising your data.

The native screen recording feature is available in the Quick Settings. Tapping this will alert you that the system now has access to the full screen. You can start recording by tapping Start now. At this point, a red icon will appear in the status bar.
