I’ve always preferred shredded meat over the sliced or diced variety. I choose shredded chicken for my tacos and shredded pork for my banh mi, and shredded chicken salad is by far the best method, despite the fact that shredding meat is definitely more work than slicing it, but it doesn’t have to be if you use a stand mixer for the job.
Shred meat hands-free with your stand mixer!
The first time I shredded chicken with forks, I thought, “Oh, this isn’t so bad,” until a few minutes later, when my palms turned red. It’s not that shredding is complicated or particularly hard to figure out, but if you’re doing it for more than maybe two pieces of meat, it can be a hassle. Throwing it in a stand mixer instead is totally worth it.
I first learned about this method from a similar video a few weeks ago, which focused on making a shredded chicken salad. The person would fit the stand mixer with a whisk attachment, turn the machine on, add their ingredients, and scoop out the finished salad. My initial reaction was that the finished chicken salad looked a little too smooth, like it had lost its texture. The video creator admitted this, but was otherwise pleased with the result.
I was so curious that I tried grating it myself in a stand mixer, with a few adjustments.
