The First Descendant has had a bumpy two weeks since launch. After receiving a string of negative reviews due to its aggressive monetization strategies, the game is now also being accused of plagiarizing Destiny 2's artwork and content.
How THE FIRST DESCENDANT copied DESTINY 2
This refers to icons that appear to have been taken directly from Destiny 2 or implemented after slight rework. While some of the icons in The First Descendant may simply look the same, others leave little room for speculation as they appear to be dead-on carbon copies of those in Destiny 2. The reason behind these supposed similarities may not be as sinister as some thought, however, and the root of the problem may lie with an icon database and the misuse of the Creative Commons license.
As first reported by PC Gamer , Nexon likely used Iconduck, a supposedly "free and open-source" icon database that, surprise, surprise, contains a Destiny icon pack. Nexon may have used this for their game and edited it slightly, since everything on the site is sold as usable in commercial products. The icons themselves were created by Tom Chapman, who worked on the Bray.tech websites (according to IGN) for Destiny 2.
However, Iconduck also features a lot of artwork from popular franchises that apparently cannot be considered open source and royalty-free, raising questions about Nexon's casual use of the Destiny 2 icon pack.
