The developers of The First Descendant have responded to a recent controversy over key artwork, and changes are coming to the game.
Warframe VS The First Descendant VS Destiny 2 | Which one is better?
Earlier this week, the looter shooter was plagued with accusations of plagiarism after several people noticed that some of the game’s icons looked an awful lot like those in Destiny 2. The icons were reportedly taken from an open-source website called Iconduck, which features icons from Bungie’s popular shooter. But that hasn’t stopped people from criticizing The First Descendant even more than they already were, whether it’s about plagiarism, aggressive microtransactions, or even matchmaking rules. Now, developer Nexon has decided to do something about those complaints.
As reported by IGN, Nexon explained that the development team took inspiration from many different games, including Destiny 2. However, without directly addressing the controversy, the developers stated that they "decided to make adjustments to ensure that the visuals that may appear similar clearly reflect the unique identity of our game." The statement ended with promises to improve other aspects of the game as well.
While these changes may seem welcome, they likely won't stop gamers from comparing The First Descendant to Destiny 2 as long as both games remain popular. However, these comparisons may not really matter to most, considering the game's player base started out strong and continues to climb. With 10 million players currently experiencing everything The First Descendant has to offer, Nexon's looter shooter is likely doing just fine.
