The future of Destiny 2 is facing some serious changes following major layoffs at Bungie. And according to a new report from Jason Schreier, that future won’t include the big, annual DLC expansions that have become the game’s hallmark.
This is the FUTURE of Destiny 2 DLCs…
In a Bloomberg report today, Schreier named both current and former Bungie employees in the wake of the company laying off more than 200 people on July 31, sparking massive speculation about the studio and the game’s future. Schreier noted that among the future plans to change Bungie and Destiny 2 were also plans to change the content release structure the game has followed in recent years, which has seen the game release a major DLC expansion roughly once a year. According to Schreier, the Destiny 2 content added to the game will be smaller in size going forward.
“During a recent meeting, a company leader told attendees that sales of every expansion had declined year-over-year, including June's The Final Shape,” Schreier's report reads, outlining Bungie's rationale for changing its release model.
While the report notes that some remaining staff members are "optimistic" about the game's future with Tyson Green now at the helm as game director, there was also bad news for Guardians who were hoping that the next evolution of Destiny would be Destiny 3.
