If you can’t stand notifications from another device, you’re not alone. Manufacturers understand your complaint.
Make Windows 11 and Windows 10 a little less annoying, a guide to notifications
Google is working on a new type of notification system for smart home devices, called Little Signals. The concept replaces pings and chimes with methods such as moving shadows, physical taps or even air puffs. Many users apparently can't wait to stop all the ringing sounds and flashing alerts.
“Notification fatigue is a real problem,” Mike Welsh, chief creative officer of digital consultancy Mobiquity, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Brands across all platforms need to understand that you’re not dealing with nameless, faceless users on the other end of a transaction. You’re dealing with a whole person with a whole life outside of the interactions you’re initiating. When it comes to notifications, less is more.”
A Google website shows off the new Little Signals concept as part of an overall effort to create ambient computing. The company wants to aggregate all of the notifications users receive from different devices and turn them into less intrusive signals.
