In a surprise announcement today, Naz Aletaha, global head of esports at League of Legends, has announced that she will step down in the coming months and leave Riot entirely, after more than a decade at the company’s flagship esports program.

Aletaha broke the news in an article on X/Twitter. After a sabbatical that began in February of this year, Aletaha wrote that she felt the need to relocate. "I have decided that I am ready to start a new chapter in my career," she wrote. "This decision was not easy, but it is the right time for me to explore new horizons." Aletaha further explained that she will be helping the LoL Esports team during a transition period in the coming months before she leaves Riot completely.

Chris Greeley, who Aletaha said oversaw the LoL Esports head position during her sabbatical, will continue in the role while Aletaha helps with the transition. Greeley has served as LoL Esports' head of strategy for the past two years.
