Many of us are tired of our phones sucking up our attention. You quickly check the opening hours of that store you’re walking to, and end up spending 15 minutes on Instagram thanks to a really enticing notification. But in today’s world, it’s nearly impossible to live without a phone. That conundrum is solved by the Light Phone, a minimal black-and-white handset that does only what you need it to do and nothing you don’t.

At the very least, we need phones to communicate. Then we use them to listen to music and podcasts, take photos, and ask for directions. These are all things that pocket computers are great at. Unfortunately, they’re also great at bringing endless, mindless TikToks, Instagram influencers, and social media doom feeds to our attention. While it’s possible to give up your phone altogether, why can’t we lose the bad parts and keep the good ones?
