For more than two decades, Mac fans have dreamed of the xMac, a “headless” Mac that’s smaller and less powerful than the massive Mac Pro. Finally, in March 2022, it’s here.
The Mac Studio Makes No Sense… Here's Why
The xMac concept is a little less relevant today, since both the Mac mini and MacBook Pro are more than powerful enough for any home or studio task, but here it is. Apple’s cool new Mac Studio is a tiny workstation Mac with more power than most people need in a small package, and it’s reasonably priced, starting at just $2,000.
"The Mac Studio is truly the desktop Mac I've wanted for years. A Mac mini… only with more. Faster, more expandability, more displays," said Apple journalist Andy Ihnatko on Twitter.
The Mac Studio looks like two Mac minis stacked on top of each other, with lots of extra vents for cooling. It’s available with the M1 Max chipset you find in the latest MacBook Pros, or the new M1 Ultra, which is literally just two M1 Maxes connected to each other with a custom, high-speed interconnect.
