Helldivers 2 players triumphed once again in the latest Major Order aimed at Valyria 5, and were promptly rewarded for their efforts. The new mech is a formidable auto-cannon-sporting killing machine, and while players are happy with the overall quality, ammo capacity remains a critical point.
Helldivers 2 – I unlocked and tested EVERY new weapon in the Freedom's Flame Warbond
The Emancipator Exosuit, as the new mech is called, was introduced to the game on May 27 after players liberated the suit’s factory on Valyria 5. It sports multiple automatic cannons on both sides, maneuvers much the same as the Walker Exosuit introduced a few months prior, and is generally a beast, especially against Automatons. A Reddit thread posted on the day the mech was released into the wild shows how it performs on Helldive difficulty, with endless swarms of bots appearing from all sides. And while it can defeat, or “emancipate,” them fairly quickly, the suit runs out of ammo after a whopping 50 seconds of continuous use.
Since mechs in Helldivers 2 are capped at two per match, this means that players can use two mechs continuously and non-stop for a total of 100 seconds during an entire match, which can sometimes last up to 40 minutes. On higher difficulties this is especially annoying, as Automaton enemies can easily overwhelm players and attack from all sides, preventing any significant progress. Of course the limitations on mechs are there to maintain "balance", but I think it generally ruins the fun when you're forced to ditch such expensive and powerful hardware simply because you're "out of ammo".
In a game where ships drop supply pods from space, I think there's room for a mech resupply, as long as the suit remains intact. One player suggested that Arrowhead add a "Mech Rearm" Strategem that drops Mech Resupply pods that can be manually reloaded by players, similar to other Strategem weapons. Or, if Arrowhead wanted to extend the time it took to reload a mech, a Pelican-1 could come in and pick it up, or rearm it with an animation similar to how Pelicans are refueled in some missions.
