According to decades-old science fiction stories, robots are already here to meet our every need. But the robotics industry is still trying to gain a foothold.
Inside Amazon's Robot Revolution
However, companies like Amazon are pushing things. The shipping giant has just unveiled a warehouse robot called Proteus that’s packed with high-tech advancements, as announced in an official blog post from the company.
Proteus is a fully autonomous robot that works in the company’s large, byzantine warehouses. Amazon has had robots working in warehouses since 2012, when it acquired robotics company Kiva, but this new bot is different. Proteus works alongside humans, a first for Amazon since previous robots were cordoned off for safety reasons.
In other words, this cute little robot safely navigates around people while performing its primary function: picking up stacks of boxes, taking them somewhere else, and delivering them to their new home.
