If I were buying a set top box for my TV, I would avoid the Apple TV and anything Google and go straight for this Roku. It has everything you need to watch and listen to TV and movies, and nothing you don't.

The Roku can serve as your sole interface to your TV, controlling audio and streaming video, all with a single remote. The Streambar combines a 4K media streaming set-top box with a four-speaker soundbar. This can replace the built-in speakers on your TV and should (in theory) be a step up in sound quality. If you already have a nice home theater setup, you should consider Roku's non-speaker boxes instead.

In terms of audio, you can set the box to mute loud commercials, amplify voices, and perform a number of other sound processing functions. You know how the actors’ voices are always too quiet compared to the background audio and effects? This should fix that. However, if you stream a poorly compressed copy of a movie you found via BitTorrent, it will still sound awful. You can also stream music and podcasts to the Roku from your phone via Bluetooth.
