The story of Giancarlo Parretti, the flamboyant Italian waiter turned financier who bought MGM in 1990 and was fired and sued when his takeover deal for the Hollywood studio fell through, is only just beginning to make it to the big screen.

Los Angeles independent film producer Niels Juul ('Ferrari', 'Killers of the Flower Moon') has tracked down Parretti, now 82, who is living in luxury in a palazzo in his hometown of Orvieto. Juul is at the Venice Film Festival to buy a screenplay for a Parretti biopic, 'The Lion of Orvieto'.

The “Lion of Orvieto” is written by TV comedy writer Michael O’Rourke, who worked with Sacha Baron Cohen on “Da Ali G Show” and has written several unproduced dramas. “Lion” is based on extensive research and an unpublished book featuring in-depth interviews with Parretti.
