Whenever you see a silver diamond on something that isn't a door or a person, make sure to click on it. Whether it's a poster on a wall, a newspaper on a desk, or a fallen piece of paper with a note on it, anything you read will earn you XP.
Better yet, many of the items you pick up and read will lead to side quests. These can be as simple as visiting a location to view an exhibit or checking out a point of interest, but completing them will earn you even more XP.
