Traits are additional defenses that enemies can have that aid them in combat. These can always be disarmed by removing all Focus from the enemy. However, the fastest way is to attack the enemy with their matching salutor (their text box will indicate which one will work), as long as you also have a high enemy skill in that dimension. This is why it's important to diversify.

Invulnerability is the most annoying, so I usually target anyone with it first. Resistant targets can still be dotted and weakened, meaning you can thin them out while making their attacks pretty weak.
