The TinyPod is one of the most ingenious ideas I’ve seen in a while: it’s a tiny case for an Apple Watch without a strap, essentially turning it into a miniature iPod, complete with an old-fashioned click wheel.
An Apple Watch turns into an iPod
These days, you can do a lot with an Apple Watch, from playing music to making calls and navigating from A to B with Apple Maps. All that functionality remains, but the device moves from your wrist to your pocket with this compact plastic casing.
This has its pros and cons: you can’t track your steps or heart rate when it’s not on your wrist, for example, but it does mean that the device is easier to use. The back of the watch remains accessible, so you can still charge it as normal.
While the focus is primarily on playing music through a pair of connected AirPods, the TinyPod is also marketed as a fully-featured mini-phone for those times when you don’t want to use your primary iPhone. That’s a fair guess at what this is. And it works even better if you have an LTE-compatible Apple Watch that can go online on its own.
