Smart glasses maker Vuzix has partnered with startup Xander to announce a new, sleek pair of glasses that offer instant real-time captioning.
AI-Powered Sunglasses Caption Real Conversations for the Hearing Impaired
The just-announced XanderGlasses are essentially a pair of Vuzix Blade smart glasses with some new tech under the hood to enable instant captioning. Of course, these glasses are being marketed towards people who are deaf or hard of hearing, but the tech could help anyone who needs a little clarification every now and then.
This is how they work. You put the glasses on and the captions are displayed in real time in your field of view. All the technology to do this is in the glasses, so they don’t need a cloud connection, an integrated smartphone or Wi-Fi. You just put them on and let the glasses do their thing.
“With nearly 50 million people in this country alone and 1.5 billion people worldwide suffering from some form of hearing loss, the need for products like XanderGlasses is significant, and we look forward to supporting their efforts to bring their solution to market this year,” said Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix.
