There’s never a quiet day for League of Legends players. This time around, the playerbase took to Reddit to vent their frustrations over the new milestone system, with some players believing that Riot “wants to reward players less.”

The quest for Mastery Chests took a sour turn today when players made their feelings on the new milestone system abundantly clear, requiring players to complete specific tasks in order to earn a checkmark on the milestone counter. The latest League of Legends champion mastery system has been in effect since May 15, the start of Split Two. However, it’s only now that players have had enough of the new milestone system, citing the difficulty of obtaining Mastery Chests and Hextech Keys.

In the new milestone system, players will be assigned 10 champions to play for their seasonal milestone progress each split. Each champion has four mastery tiers, and within those tiers Mastery Chests can be unlocked. To unlock them, you must play the champion and achieve the grade required to complete the milestone. An example is Ashe Mastery 1, where you must achieve an A grade or higher in one match and a C grade or higher in four other matches.

While Riot claimed in their dev update that the goal of the new system was to increase the average amount of chests a player can earn per year, it has had the opposite effect for some. “Currently my loot tab is 9 keys and 0 chests,” said the author of the original Reddit post. The player feels like they are now being forced to play champions they don’t like in order to receive a Mastery Chest.
