Most things are faster to do with the keyboard than with the mouse, but not every app was built with the keyboard in mind. That’s where Shortcat comes in. This free Mac application lets you quickly find and click things like buttons, links, and fields in applications, all with a few keystrokes. There’s a bit of a learning curve, admittedly, but once you get past that, it can speed up almost everything you do on your computer.

BEST Mac app if you use a mouse

Shortcat is activated with a keyboard shortcut: by default, CMD-Shift-Space. Activate this shortcut and you will see a search bar and yellow boxes with two-letter codes for everything in the menu bar and every clickable item in the current window.

Search for the thing on the screen – either by typing the two-letter code or by simply typing the thing you want. When you see the thing you want to "click", just hit enter – the result will be just as if you had moved the mouse and clicked on that item. You are not limited to clicking: you can double-click by quickly pressing enter twice or right-click by holding down control while pressing enter.

This works with native Mac applications, which is to be expected, but I was happy to hear that it also works in web browsers. For example, you can search for a link you want to open and then hit enter to open it.
