Anyone working on video projects (or looking to beef up their phone’s GIFs/memes folder) will occasionally need to download videos from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and the like. The problem is that such sites typically don’t offer a download button, forcing you to turn to a third-party app, which introduces another problem: those third-party tools are often riddled with ads or just generally look like a scam.
How to Download Any Video from Any Site to Your PC
Not Cobalt.tools. This service, built by one person, is completely open source and has no ads, trackers or analytics. It couldn’t be easier to use either: just copy the URL for the media you want to download and paste it into the site. Your download will start after you hit “Enter.”
Most people won’t need to know anything else to download videos, but there are a few features you can dig into if you really want to: you can choose the resolution of the video, disable that annoying TikTok watermark, and download actual (old, inefficient) .gif files from Twitter instead of a video file. You can also customize the final filename to use the video’s name instead of its URL, if you prefer. (Note that downloading and using videos from social media may violate the site’s terms of service, and depending on how the video is used, this could also be considered copyright infringement.)
According to the project page on Github, the site supports downloading videos and audio files from Bilibili, Instagram, OK Video, Pinterest, Reddit, Rutube, Soundcloud, Streamable, Tiktok, Tumblr, Twitch (clips), the website formally known as Twitter, Vimeo, Vine, VK, and YouTube. That should cover just about everything.
